GM Total Warranty

Every new GM car and light-duty truck is backed by the GM TOTALTM Warranty to correct any defects in material or workmanship occurring during the warranty period. The coverage period is as follows:

  • 3 year/60,000 km (whichever comes first)
  • 4 year/80,000 km (whichever comes first) on Cadillac
  • 5 year/100,000 km (whichever comes first) Powertrain limited warranty on 2002 Cavalier and Sunfire

Can I get extra mechanical coverage?

Yes. For example, the General Motors Protection Plan has been designed to provide a wide range of time/kilometrage coverage's should you drive your vehicle beyond the manufacturer's warranty.

What if my new vehicle is stolen or destroyed in an accident?

You're protected. SMARTLEASE includes gap protection at no extra cost to you. It guarantees that if your new vehicle is stolen and not recovered or destroyed in an accident and there is an insurance settlement, you are not responsible for any additional charges other than your insurance deductible, providing that you have fulfilled all of the contractual agreements of your lease prior to the accident of theft.

What if I expect to drive more kilometres than my lease allows?

You can arrange for additional kilometres beyond the 24,000 kilometre per year limit when negotiating your lease. You may pay less by purchasing extra kilometres up front, rather than at lease end.

Can I return my vehicle before my SMARTLEASE contract is up?

Yes. You can terminate your lease early by notifying GMAC. However, early termination charges may apply.

Can I keep my vehicle at the end of the lease?

Yes. You can purchase the vehicle at the end for the guaranteed purchase price in your lease agreement. If you wish to take advantage of this option or have any questions, talk with your sales representative.
